Bio
Barry Swartz, Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Nelson University, is a dedicated coach with a passion for teaching and fostering team culture. Swartz earned his degree from Grand Canyon University (GCU), where he developed a strong foundation for his coaching career. Inspired by the teaching aspect of coaching, Swartz finds great reward in implementing a distinct culture and style of play, watching young athletes unite for a purpose greater than themselves. His journey to Nelson University came as he transitioned from club coaching back to the collegiate level, seeking to make a broader impact. Swartz previously coached at CCV Stars, where he led the U19 boys’ team to two national tournament qualifications, a regional championship, and two state cup titles. He also served as an assistant coach at Arizona Christian University (ACU), contributing to a conference tournament championship and an NAIA national tournament qualification. At Nelson University, Swartz integrates Christian principles into his coaching philosophy, emphasizing their application both on and off the field. He fosters a team culture that values faith, character, and personal growth as much as athletic performance, encouraging players to live out these principles in all aspects of their lives.
