No Walk in the Park: Lady Warriors Drop Double-Header
Teams match scores in both games
The Nelson Lady Warriors softball team (17-21) dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Park University Buccaneers, falling 10-1 in Game 1 (6 innings – run-rule) as well as Game 2 (5 innings – run-rule) at Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix, AZ.
Game 1: Park 10, Nelson 1 (6 innings – run-rule)
After the Buccaneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings, Nelson mounted a small rally in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases with two outs. Kiley Hernandez came through with a single up the middle to drive in Emily Quigg, cutting the deficit to 4-1. However, that would be the only run the Warriors could muster. Park responded by scoring three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to blow the game open and the run-rule was invoked after six innings.
Park pounded out 14 hits in the victory, while Nelson managed just 6 hits total.
Game 2: Park 10, Nelson 1 (5 innings – run-rule)
The second game followed a similar pattern. After Park scored an unearned run in the top of the first, Nelson answered in the bottom half, loading the bases with two outs and tying the game at 1-1 when Isenya Silva singled to left field to drive in Estevannie Rojas. However, once again, that lone run was all the Warriors could muster.
The Buccaneers pulled away with two runs in the 2nd, five in the third, and two more in the fifth. Despite Park recording only 9 hits in the game, Nelson managed just 5 hits and were unable to string together any sustained rallies and before the game made it through regulation, the run-rule ended the contest after five innings.
