Short-handed Lady Warriors Nearly Pull off Upset
Fall 4-1 at the Justice Lions
The Nelson Lady Warriors' Women's Soccer team remained in pursuit of the program's first-ever victory in the program's inaugural season, but displayed unyielding grit in a 4-1 defeat to the Justice University Lions, battling short-handed with just nine players on the field in an away matchup that tested their resolve to the limit.
From the opening whistle, the undermanned Lady Warriors faced an uphill climb against a full-strength Justice squad. However, despite the on-field disadvantage, Nelson's defense, anchored by tenacious backline play, held firm against waves of Lion attacks, limiting opportunities and keeping the game within reach.
The second half saw the Lady Warriors rally with heart, as Alizey Hernandez ignited a spark of hope with the team's lone goal, an unassisted stunner that sliced through the Justice defense and narrowed the gap.
Unfortunately, Justice was able to capitalize on their extra player, eventually securing the 4-1 final. Even in the loss, the Ladies fought with true Warrior Spirit, fighting valiantly while outnumbered, sparking renewed hope that their first team victory is soon on the horizon.
Up next for the Lady Warriors will be a rematch against Justice, on Saturday, October 11, at 7:30pm, at the CCV Peoria Fields, number three.
